| We have entered the Wonthaggi Human Powered Grand Prix 24 hour endurance race a few times, once with my leaning trike and in 2004 and 2005 with the two trikes on the left. These two trikes are quite different in design, so take a look and see how we did.
I used to compete in the OzHpv Challenge every year in Canberra, so I have built many different cycles for this event. This event consists of a whole weekend of racing in different events, from criteriums (my fav) to time trials, road race and off-road! The winner of the overall trophy needs to do well in all of these events to win overall. I was lucky enough to have won it three times on three very different machines. First race was on the first trike I designed and built, did ok for first time around, but found it too wide to pass on tight circuit. Used the MTB with road tyres to win overall one year. The SWB bike was another lucky win, but it is still the fastest unfaired cycle that I have made to date. The second trike was pretty light and nice and narrow, no win that year though. The FWD was an interesting bike and very simple to look at. Made it too close to the event once again, so didn't get enough kms on it to get comfortable with it. The low GTR I used with a removable nose fairing for my last win, it proved a very good overall machine by using the fairing to increase its speed for the speed events. It cornered great and stopped in a hurry. some more info on these machines on "stuff I've built" page. Might have to remake version#1 with short cranks and lighter weight for the next Challenge event... |
