In a nut shell the Brompton succeeds at being the smallest package folded for a bike that still feels like a full size road bike to ride. It is also one of the fastest and easiest to fold. The two of its biggest attributes are that it folds while it is standing so that you don't have to juggle it in your hands. The other is that the folded package all locks into itself so you don't have wheels flopping about as you pick it up.

Other design can be a smaller folded package but don't have the same feel as a full sized bike to ride. Others can be much larger folded package and cover more purpose build riding. We suggest that you get to a shop that specializes in folding bikes so that you can see exactly which type suits you best.
