In April 2002 Brompton released their 6 spd system which incorporated the 2 spd derailleur on a 3 spd hub, shortly after the 5 spd hubs were discontinued. In Australia it's the 5 models that followed that are the most well known. If you are new to the Brompton concept you are likely here trying to work out what someone else has recommended for you.

Bromptons are keepers, most parts for older models are kept in stock by Brompton so that you will never be left short due to a hard to find piece. That's refreshing in today's throw away society.

We have a commitment here at Greenspeed to keep all the Bromptons out there on the road.

All older models used the traditional handlebars and accepted the front luggage block as seen in the photo here. The Models were seperated into;

C-type. Much the same as today's. This was the base model with no frills and a lower grade of components.

L-types. These were the lighter, around town models which featured the mudguards (that the C-type didn't have), but no rack. These were offered in a 3 spd (3L) and 6 spd (6L)

T-types. These were considered the touring or more heavy use models. They incorporated the rear rack and dynamo lighting system. Like the L-type, they were offered in both 3 and 6 spd models, the T3 and T6.                      Next ->
